The summer of the butterflies...to be

Anyone reading this from NC, ignore the next sentence, you already know it all too well.  This has been a wet summer.  I don't remember another being wetter!  Needless to say, our garden got in late, flowers look a bit straggly and it's just been off. The only thing growing well? mosquitos!  Well, that and butterflies.

I don't remember ever seeing as many butterflies in a summer as we have.  As a matter of fact, we've had both monarch and swallow tail caterpillars on our parsley plant that has gone to seed.  Today we walked out to find these...the swallowtail caterpillar, happily munching away (until Brant poked it with a stick to see what it would do.  Ever seen a pissed off caterpillar?  we did!)

Butterflies are just so special.  Maybe because they are so fragile, or have such a neat life cycle, but either way, we enjoy nature around our house!
